San Francisco's oldest retailer and city icon

Family owned and operated for over 75 years.

Charlie Pivnick opened Vet's Mercantile, a war surplus store, in 1946. By 1954 it had become Cable Car Clothiers, named for the cable car line on Powell and O'Farrell Streets. His grandson Jonathan Levin, head haberdasher, brought the shop back to Sutter Street in late 2012.
